...but to hell with the Miata, I don’t care about the car. Let’s talk about that gorgeous red paint!
I’ve seen the same color on a couple new 3s and 6s around town, and it is an absolutely stunning color! Very dynamic in how it accentuates highlights and shadows and plays with the lines of the bodywork; looks like the clearcoat is made of thick clear glass. Mazda calls it “Soul Red” and adds a premium for this color. I’ve never been moved by paint colors so much, but I think it’s a worthy check box to tick when buying a new Mazda.
Its hard finding a picture that captures it well... either it ends up looking very flat almost burgundy, or (as is the case above), it makes the entire picture look overly-HDR enhanced... the paint itself almost has a hyper-real quality to it.
Anyway, beautiful color. Mazda’s current lineup is a great-looking set of cars, and this particular red they chose really sets off some amazing designs.

I wish I could find the article I read this in - it was one of the major car magazine websites - but it was around the time when the Mazda6 was first revealed, and the Soul Red was shown off. The editor mentioned that after speaking to an anonymous rival car company executive, he told him that he literally “couldn’t believe” how cheap Mazda managed to sell such a high quality paint scheme for.
Apparently he was rather curious just what kind of secret sauce Mazda was using, because the car executive was literally dumbfounded. The guy didn’t think it was possible to sell it as an optional extra for so cheap without losing money on it.

It really reminds me of some of the Kandy Kolors paint jobs I’ve seen on lowriders over the years, only with much smaller metal flake.
I’m sure its probably derived from the iron-rich blood of Chinese & Indian orphans who live at the e-waste dump sites and sustain themselves by harvesting gold and copper from circuit boards...

Velocity Red Mica was gorgeous... Soul Red is as well. Very cool. (Velocity Red was used on NB Mazdaspeed Miata, and 2006 NC Special Edition, as well as other cars and option packages)
A deep, similarly dramatic and vibrant dark green with tan leather seats would be welcomed, as well... but green is not on the 2016 color list. Maybe it will be the first ND LE, like the 1991 LE, and 2001 SE.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles
